Musa Askari

Musa Askari, youngest son of the late Professor Syed Hasan Askari, is an independent thinker continuing the work of his teacher and guide through this blog as but one mode of expression for that work. Musa Askari does not belong to any religious organisation. Inspired by his late father’s vision Musa Askari finds himself spiritually at home in all “houses of worship” and systems of thought which echo a universal outlook supporting a wholesome and meaningful engagement with the world about us. A world that is both a wonder and mystery; secular and religious, material and spiritual, physical and meta-physical. Dedicated to the revival of the classical discourse on Soul, Inter-Religious understanding & Spiritual Humanism* as an alternative ideology to secularism and religious fundamentalism.

    1. Dear Rev. Vonck,
Thank you for your kind messages. I regret to inform my late Father passed away in February 2008. He is “active” in the sense an author continues to reside within the pages of their work and also I continue his work and vision by sharing through this website.
I highly recommend his speech Spiritual Humanism from 1995 which charts his life journey in three stages. The speech also forestalls to some of the deep challenges we face today in the world. Transcript and audio of the speech available here: https://spiritualhuman.co.uk/speech-hasan-askari-spiritual-humanism/

      All the best,

      1. Dear Musa:
I have been looking for years for a book “Tazkira-e Ghousia” which he had translated and had written a profound essay on the need for a new hermeneutics of inter-faith dialogue in the Islamic tradition. You might have some information about it. Other than that, do you the complete works of your illustrious father? My late brother Omar had made a big effort and collected all our father’s works. I had written you earlier, but never received a reply.

  2. Dear Khalidi Saab,
The book in question is called “Solomon’s Ring : The Life and Teachings of a Sufi Master”. Yale University Press. The eassay will be my Father’s introduction to the book which is a selected translation from Urdu into English of the stories of the Sufi Master Ghous Ali Shah Qalandar. The memoirs of Ghousia is written by Gul Hasan the direct disciple of Ghous Ali Shah. In tribute of both the Master and Disciple I visited Panipat in 2009 and was able to locate their graves and thank them for their mysticism. I had written to you in February 2016 with an attachment listing my Father work. However, you can find them listed on this site. Please click on “Hasan Askari” and they are listed at foot of the page. https://spiritualhuman.co.uk/hasan-askari/
You can also find on this site audio of my Father’s speech in Hyderabad, Interview by Karen Armstrong and radio interview from Denver called Endless Search when he was teaching there in the late 1980s.
    All the best,
    Musa Askari

    1. Thanks. I have visited your site many times, and referred some friends to it, especially the young Karen Armstrong’s interview. I also greatly admire the Humanist Dialogues (with John Avery). Fascinating, and illuminating. The world needs to heed Professor Askari’s synthesis of our heritage, bridging many world and eras.
